Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick Review

Most of the reviews that I do on here are pretty positive. It isn’t often that I run into a product that I am not a fan of. But sadly, these products did not work out for me at all. There are some really good things about this product, but the one downside to them is big enough to make me return them. I picked up the shades Unicorn and Pure Hollywood. Unicorn was the shade that I was really lusting after and I picked up Pure Hollywood because one can never have too many good nudes. Honestly, I have not tried Pure Hollywood on yet because I knew after wearing Unicorn that these were not the products for me.

Unicorn is a very blue based pink that is almost purple. These types of shades are my absolute favorite to wear. When I saw that Unicorn was being released in their summer collection, I knew this would be the shade that I would try out in the liquid lipstick formula. The product is super pigmented and goes on very well. I like the applicator and I feel like I get really nice precision when applying with it. The formula is easy to apply. It isn’t super liquidy; its almost mousse like, so it goes on very evenly. The formula dries down very quickly to a matte finish. One major upside to this product is that it does not transfer whatsoever. I could drink and eat and this bad boy would still stay on. But that, my friends, is what leads me to its major downside.

The product gets so dry on the lips only after wearing it for a couple of hours. You know that nasty little crust like look you get from wearing a matte that is basically dried out on the lips? That absolutely happens with this and I feel like it happens rather quickly compared to other liquid lipsticks that I have tried. It was only on for maybe 2 hours before I noticed this happening. That in turn, makes this a very high maintenance lip color. You need to be able to check your lips rather frequently to know WHEN TO TAKE IT OFF and reapply. This is not a product that once it has reached this dried out state that is good to then put another fresh layer on. It is best to take off what you have on and reapply. This is such a big con for me that I will not be hanging on to these. Sorry to the nice lady at Macy’s who went on a hunt to find the Unicorn’s that it said were in stock that she could not find.

I feel like in all of the Instagram photos and Youtube videos that you see of these, they look so fantastic on the lips. And that is true; they apply incredibly well and do look beautiful when they are freshly applied. But I don’t know that I have actually heard anyone or seen anyone talk about how these wear or say that they are drying at all. I have several of the Too Faced Melted Liquid Lipsticks and do not have the same dry and crusty issue that I get with these Anastasia Liquid Lipsticks and it takes the Too Faced quite a while to set into that matte state. If you are someone who loves matte lips, you might be able to make this product work for you or you might not even have the issues that I have. But these sadly did not work out for me. The Anastasia Lip Glosses are absolutely amazing though. I highly recommend those. If you are interested in the liquid lipsticks, I would test one out before purchasing to see if they are right for you.

Current Nails and a Haul

I feel like I have been on a bit of an Essie kick lately with my nail polish choices. Play Date is another one of those polishes that I had been eyeing for a while but thought it was too dupeable to buy. After seeing it on someone recently, I saw that the polish is actually way more unique that I had originally thought and the formula was surprisingly good. Essie formulas can be very hit or miss. For example, I bought some of the summer “neons” collection that is exclusive to Target. The formulas were awful and I either duped or found polishes similar enough my collection that had much better formulas so those summer polishes went right back to Target.

Anyways, back to Play Date. It is a gorgeous baby purple (baby purple? is that even a real color?). I know baby purple sounds weird, but it is not pastel and it is not dark and its not neon either. It falls kind of in the middle and I feel like it is one of those colors that you see a lot of baby clothes and stuff in. Its just that kind of purple. As previously mentioned, Play Date has a good formula. It was 2 coats for total opacity. It was a little runny but it was nothing out of control or hard to handle. The polish also wore very well on me with the OPI Infinite Shine base and top coat.

When I got back from Cleveland, I did a little bit of shopping to put myself in a better mood, Retail therapy really is a thing. I hit up MAC (of course because I have been obsessed lately) and picked up two of their extra dimension shadows (they are permanent now by the way). I picked up Ready To Party and Smoky Mauve.

The reason I went shopping was for the Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Unicorn. Unicorn is one of the new summer shades and this color is so up my alley. Because I loved the color so much, I decided I would finally give these guys a try. I almost picked up Pure Hollywood, which is a true nude shade, and I am not too sure if I am going to like it on me but I am excited to try it out.

I also recently signed up for Birchbox and that was waiting for me when I got home. Most of my samples this month were skincare, which I am not too happy about. If this continues, my subscription will not be lasting very long.
